Repair shop news Monday October 20I have some openings for Wednesday and Friday this week!Today and tomorrow (Mon-Tue) the shop is closed. I have had an unusually busy couple of weeks for gigs in addition to a full shop schedule, and I am writing this from the laundromat. I have more concerts on Wednesday and Thursday and I really need clean black clothes to wear.I will be in the shop wrapping up a couple of projects that need to be done, but most of this week is toast.

Repair shop news: October 6-11, 2025I have just shut down my calendar for the week. All existing appointments are still on but I am not able to accommodate any more.Unfortunately I have lost (or was it stolen?) my wallet, and this has created a number of tasks that I do not have time or energy for. The resulting frustration and panic has made me significantly unwell.Thots and pears for a swift resolution to this issue, and thank you to my fabulous clients and friends for understanding!

Thank you to this client for reminding me to spread awareness of this!! Now that you know that it’s possible for a swab to get stuck in your instrument, you can plan what to do if it happens to you.It is normal to panic. The best thing you can do is accept that you aren't going to play another note until you can see your repair technician. It sucks especially if you are in the middle of a concert.I've seen so many at-home extraction attempts go very badly. Please put down the crochet hook/scissors/knife/drill bit/lighter/tweezers.For flutes I recommend the Flute Flag, and for oboes the big purple Loree swab. Both of these will not get stuck. Unfortunately for clarinets and bassoons there are not fail-safe swabs that I am aware of. Swabs with a tail on the end can help but I have seen the tail get crammed in with the rest of the swab. Use caution when swabbing!
